How Our In-Home Sleep Testing Process Works

Step 1: Obtain a Referral Form
We will provide you with a “Request for In-Home Sleep Test” form.

Step 2: Visit Your GP
Take the form to your General Practitioner (GP), who will conduct an initial assessment. This may include questions about your sleep habits, daytime tiredness, overall health, and other factors related to sleep apnoea.
The information collected helps determine your eligibility for Medicare rebates and assists in assessing whether a sleep study is appropriate for you.
Please note that costs and rebates may vary depending on your eligibility and level of private health cover.

Step 3: Referral Processing
Your completed form can be emailed to us at info@northhobartpharmacy.com.
We will forward the referral to Sleep Testing Australia for review and approval. This process typically takes approximately one week.

Step 4: Collect Your Sleep Testing Equipment
Once your referral has been approved, we will contact you to arrange an appointment at the pharmacy.
During this appointment, a trained team member will show you how to use the sleep testing equipment and correctly place the sensors. Appointments are generally scheduled close to closing time on weekdays to minimise the chance of the sensors moving before you go to sleep.
The equipment is designed to monitor your sleep patterns throughout the night in the comfort of your own home. You can remove the sensors yourself the following morning.

Step 5: Return the Equipment
After completing the overnight sleep study, return the equipment to the pharmacy as instructed.

Step 6: Results and Treatment Options
The recorded data will be sent to Sleep Testing Australia, where it will be analysed and interpreted by qualified sleep specialists.
Once your results are available, we will discuss the outcome with you and explain any recommended next steps. If treatment is recommended, the team at North Hobart Pharmacy can assist with a range of sleep apnoea solutions, including CPAP devices, masks, and ongoing support to help you achieve better sleep.

We stock Resmed machines, masks & accessories.

We are in partnership with CPAP Direct and have access to products featured on their website.

What is sleep apnoea?

Sleep apnoea is a common condition in which your breathing repeatedly stops and restarts while you sleep. This can prevent your body from receiving adequate oxygen.

If someone tells you that you snore or gasp during sleep, or if you have other symptoms of poor sleep, such as excessive daytime sleepiness, you should consult your doctor about sleep apnoea and book a test with North Hobart Pharmacy.
